Job Description Maize USD 266 Bus Driver  CDL
Purpose Statement
The job of Bus Driver is done for the purpose(s) of transporting students to and from school, as well as to and from excursions, ensuring their safety and well being. The job also entails responsibilities for the inspection and light maintenance and cleaning of the bus.

Use the following ratings to evaluate each function:

Essential Functions
___1. Organizes pupil information and produces and updates route maps of assigned students for use by the primary driver and substitute drivers.
___2. Communicates directly with parents/guardians (e.g. Pick-up and drop-off times, locations, any physical/medical requirements, parents concerns, etc.) for the purpose of meeting students’ needs and providing information.
___3. Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. Fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior/interior conditions, mirrors, brake systems, lights, wheel chair lift, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and complying with mandated guidelines.
___4. Cleans assigned vehicle, both interior and exterior, for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of the vehicle.
___5. Directs the orderly loading and unloading of students to avoid injuries.
___6. Monitors students and other passengers during transit including advising of appropriate behavior for the purpose of reinforcing established regulations and maintaining passenger safety.
___7. Completes and submits reports of incidents, complaints, accidents, potential emergency situations, and passenger misconduct to appropriate personnel in order to convey required information.
___8. Conducts emergency evacuation drills for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complying with mandated requirements.
___9. Prepares reports (e.g. driving time, mileage, safety inspections, pupil count, etc.) for the purpose of meeting state and district regulations.
___10. Attends various meetings for the purpose of maintaining skills and meeting certificate requirements as required by the district and state.
___11. Operates a two-way radio for the purpose of communicating with the district office(s).
___12. Provides emergency first aid and/or CPR as required.
___13. Maintains confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal laws.
___14. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the transportation department.

Minimum Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Clean driving record.
Education, Certification
High school diploma
Valid Kansas CDL driver’s license with SP air-brake endorsement
Medic First Aid Training Certificate
AAA Defensive Driving Certificate
Physical/Medical Examination Certificate

Experience Multi-year experience in operation of a motor vehicle

Physical Demands, Working Environment
Driving during darkness (early morning, nighttime) required.
Extended sitting period for long distance trips.
Some lifting, carrying, stooping, and kneeling.

Attendance Requirements:
• Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of Education policies and regulations.
• Must be regularly available and willing to work hours determined necessary by the district.

Clearances: Cleared Background Check Current TB Test Cleared Drug Test
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Overtime is not permitted unless approved by employee’s supervisor. Otherwise, the employee may be subject to discipline, up to and including dismissal.
